Not many people imagine a beautifully designed home when they hear "concrete finishing". It is likely that they picture an industrial space characterised by being cold and functional. This assumption can be attributed to the fact that the durability of concrete relegated its use to applications that would require a durable material. However, over the years, concrete has become one of the materials people gravitate toward when they want to achieve a dramatic effect in their space without compromising on the quality of materials that they use. Concrete is steadily being integrated into numerous interior design concepts to create unique spaces that fit a modern theme. Read on to learn how to go beyond your driveway and kerbing when using concrete.

Concrete flooring

Unsealed concrete, characterised by being grey and drab, is the traditional form of concrete people envision when they picture concrete flooring. In recent years, the use of radiant heating, staining and sealants have enabled contractors to transform this concrete into stylish and elegant flooring.

If you like the natural appearance of concrete but would like to boost its appearance to suit residential applications, you can opt for staining. This process will form unique patterns on the surface of the concrete, giving it an unexpected appearance.

On the other hand, if you would like highly reflective flooring that enhances light illumination in your space, you can opt for polished epoxy concrete floors that are glossy and shiny. You may want to install under-floor heating if you are worried that your concrete floors will be too cold to bear during the winter months, so you can adjust their temperature when you need to.

Concrete walls

For most people, the concrete walls of their home are typically covered up with other materials such as timber veneers, cladding or paint to make them attractive. However, these individuals have simply not realised the natural beauty that perfectly finished concrete walls can lend to a space.

Firstly, the natural hue of the concrete adds some depth to your space when it comes to the play of shadows and light in the room. Although the natural finish of the concrete will not reflect light, it does provide your interior with a unique character.

Secondly, concrete walls are perfect for tactile finishes and can be transformed to mimic an assortment of designs. Whether you like the appearance of bricks or would like symmetrical shapes on your walls, the concrete can be stamped to enhance its visual interest.
